Randy's Donuts was first established in California, USA, in 1952, and now boasts over 70 years of history as a donut chain. Since its entry into Korea, it has continued to maintain its popularity. The distinctive, giant donut-shaped building is a notable symbol, and the donuts, crafted with fresh ingredients and meticulous preparation, captivate many with their chewy texture and rich flavor. Randy's Donuts' mini donuts, in particular, are a favorite due to their variety of flavors and colors.
In Korea, starting with the Jeju Aewol branch, which opened on September 12, 2019, they currently operate a total of 6 stores: the 2nd branch in Seoul's Yeonnam-dong, the 3rd in Daegu's Dongseongro, the 4th in Seoul's Garosugil, the 5th in Seoul's Anguk-dong, and the 6th in Busan's Gwangalli. At its initial opening, it experienced immense popularity with long queues. There was some controversy surrounding the price of Randy's Donuts, with claims that it was significantly more expensive compared to the US. I first tried Randy's Donuts last year, and I had no idea it had been operating since 2019.
They adhere to the principle of selling donuts made fresh daily and discarding any unsold donuts at the end of the day. This seems to be a common practice among many bakeries, including all donut shops.

Premium donuts offer even more variety, including Aewol green tea donuts, cream candy donuts, coco raspberry donuts, (strawberry, blueberry, lemon) filled donuts, choco crunch strawberry donuts, Texas glazed donuts, apple fritters, spring onion donuts, mint chocolate donuts, ganache donuts, Nutella donuts, (maple cream, chocolate choco, bacon maple) long johns, and almond brittle donuts, priced between 3,800 and 4,000 won.
Overall, the sweetness is incredibly strong, so I wouldn't recommend it for those who don't like sweet things. Notis is also sweet, but I think Randy's is at least twice as sweet. In fact, donut lovers generally enjoy rich and sweet flavors, so if you enjoy donuts, you'll probably like Randy's too!
The donuts sold here look similar to those from the famous donut shop Krispy Kreme, and some say they taste similar. While they were indeed similar when I tried them, personally, I found Krispy Kreme to be more delicious^^. They also reportedly use Nutella in their chocolate donuts. If you're a Nutella fan, I think the chocolate donut would be a good choice.
While I haven't tried every donut at Randy's, the ones I enjoyed the most were the lemon filling donut and the coconut donut. Since Randy's donuts are very sweet, I think the refreshing lemon complements them well, making it a good combination that I'd recommend. The coconut donut wasn't overly sweet either, and I enjoyed the subtle coconut aroma and the texture of the coconut bits!
Popular donuts include the Nutella donut, ganache donut, spring onion donut, butter cream donut, pomelo donut, and glazed donut.
This concludes our introduction to Randy's Donuts, the second installment in our donut shop series. In the next part, we'll be introducing Old Ferry Donuts, the third installment. Thank you!
